​On Saturday 8th March 6 players from Budleigh Bowls Club travelled to Honiton to play a Mixed Triples match.The match was played over 18 Ends and the Budleigh teams got off to a flying start on an Indoor Carpet that had been stretched recently and was playing extremely fast. After 11 Ends the Budleigh trio of Tony Mackness, Jackey Phillips and Andy Skudder were ahead by 10 shots at 15:5. However, over the final 7 Ends, the Honiton team, led by Judith Broom, amassed 15 Shots, with Budleigh gaining just 2. This gave Judith's team a win of 20:17.

On the adjoining Rink the Budleigh trio of Melissa Camp, John Sheppard and Ann Vincent were proving to be a strong team and after 9 Ends were losing by just 2 shots at 5:7. The Honiton team then found their form and went on to secure 15 shots over the final 9 Ends, compared to 5 from Budleigh. This gave the Honiton trio a victory of 22:10  and an overall victory to Honiton of 42:17.
Tony Mackness, the Budleigh Captain, congratulated Judith and her players for their strong performance and looked forward to the return game.

​A closely fought game with the teams from Axminster resulted in an overall draw, with 35 shots each. Well done everyone.

It was an enjoyable afternoon, resulting in a marginal victory for both the Sidmouth teams, but we put up a good fight!

An enjoyable afternoon, welcoming the Exonia ladies to Budleigh. But sadly the result wasn’t in our favour. 
Ann, Melissa and Marilyn had a strong start on rink 1, it was level pegging at the half way stage. A few big wins put paid to the brief lead and Exonia finished strongly.
Angela, Gwen and Marilyn on rink 2 were well behind at the half way stage but rallied well to lead going into the last end, a good 3 from the Exonia ladies meant the final score went their way.

​A very enjoyable afternoon and thank you Chardstock for coming all that way. Unfortunately you met a couple of Budleigh teams who were on form on the day and the result was a win for the home team 51-20. 
I’m sure they will get their revenge when we meet them on their home ground in the summer.

On rink 1 Lynda, Melissa and Marilyn were behind nearly all the way until the last four ends when they drew level then crept ahead and maintained that lead until the final end.
On rink 2 Annie, Ann and Gwen were trailing Madeira until the half way stage then drew ahead and never looked back.

​Our Budleigh ladies had a very enjoyable afternoon entertaining their old friends from Sidmouth, with lots of laughs. However, the result was not so much fun as they were runners up to a stronger Sidmouth side.

Budleigh ladies had a very enjoyable afternoon playing at Madeira, we received a lovely welcome. The result of the match was never really in doubt but we hope to prevail on our next visit.

​Budleigh ladies were welcomed to Exonia yesterday and played a good game but struggled against the skill of their players.

​A very enjoyable afternoon, playing against our friends from Topsham. A resounding win for Andy, Gwen and Marilyn 22-6, and on the other rink Melissa, Stewart and Terry lost by just three points. Overall a winning score of 43-30 to Budleigh. Well done to all.

​Today we visited Sidmouth for an enjoyable friendly match. On rink 1 the match was close until nearly halfway when a big win on one end meant the Budleigh players were playing catch up for the rest of the match. While getting to within 2 points at one stage, Sidmouth kept the lead and finished 5 points ahead. On rink 2 the match was more one-sided with Sidmouth finishing 17 points ahead. Better luck next time Budleigh!

​The ladies played the gents in two triples games in our annual indoor match. On rink 1 the gents, Terry, Stewart and Ted won well with a 9 point difference at the end against Marilyn, Ann and Wendy.
On rink two the ladies, Hilary, Gwen and Ann had a resounding win with an 18 point advantage against Andy, Derek and John. Although in terms of rinks it was a one all draw, overall the ladies won with a 9 point difference. Well done ladies!!

We hosted a Mixed Triples match against a team of six local Masonic bowlers on Saturday 19th October. The Masonic bowlers belong to a variety of Clubs and come together as a team to play against local Clubs. Their visit to Budleigh is an annual event, and this year was played over 16 Ends.

The Budleigh squad was led by John Sheppard and at the halfway point John and his team on Rink 2, Nic Jones and Gwen Hurst, were holding a narrow lead of 6 shots to 4. In the second half the masonic bowlers fought back and the result was a draw 12:12.
Meanwhile on Rink 1 the Budleigh trio of Jackey Phillips, Ann Vincent and John Dill held a lead throughout their game and secured a victory of 18:8. This gave Budleigh an overall win of 30:20.
After the match the teams gathered for a well-earned tea and John Sheppard commented "These social games are at the heart of the Club and it was a pleasure to host such a friendly group of players. We look forward to playing them again when we move to the outdoor green in 2025".

We had an enjoyable friendly match with Madeira, they were the winners this time.

​Our first friendly match of the indoor season was against Honiton.
On one rink, after losing a few ends in succession, we fought our way back to lose by just one point, but on the other rink the result was not so close. Not the opening match we would have hoped for!

​Last match of the season today and a good one for our teams against the friendly Topsham crowd. The result was a draw on one rink and a 21-9 win on the other. Well done to all and look forward to seeing Topsham outside soon.

​Budleigh played a return friendly match at Honiton against the same team as visited the Budleigh Club recently. After a closely fought match on one rink, the result was a Budleigh win overall. It was a very enjoyable match and well done to all.

​Enjoyable match against Madeira, sadly we lost on both rinks.
