Otterleigh Tour 2025
Friends from Budleigh and Ottery were made very welcome by two Cardiff teams at the weekend. The first on Saturday was Mackintosh Bowls Club, who had visited us last year as part of their South West Tour and subsequently invited us back to their club. Our six triples teams all did their best to beat the teams who had achieved a significant win when they visited Budleigh. But despite our best efforts, we were defeated by just four points. It’s not all about the winning! Our second match was against Whitchurch Bowls Club, in the north of Cardiff, another very sociable and friendly club. But the friendliness did not extend to letting us win, and we sadly suffered another defeat on their excellent green. They had some very good players and a lot of ours seemed to beset with injuries and aches and pains. That’s our excuse and we are sticking to it! A great weekend. Thanks to Tony, Gerard and Ralph for organising it. I know a lot of hard work went into it. Hopefully more to come in the future?

The sun shone all afternoon for our match against the touring side from Mackintosh Games Club in Cardiff. The idiosyncrasies of our rinks proved challenging for the visitors, as well as our home players, but the Cardiff team overcame them and achieved a win of 105-89. Disappointing for the home team, but an enjoyable game, with good company and it’s always a pleasure to welcome touring teams. It was the Welsh team’s first visit to Budleigh and they said they are looking forward to returning in the future.
Always a pleasure to welcome the jovial, friendly Masonic team but no matter how hard we try, we fail to match the skills of their players, who soundly thrashed us on our home green again yesterday. The score of 74-47 didn’t reflect the high standard all round. Their players come from as far away as Plymouth for their afternoon away to enjoy the tranquil setting at Budleigh.
Westlecot brought teams from the Swindon area to play at Budleigh Salterton on a stunning, warm, spring afternoon, on their annual tour of the East Devon clubs.
We always enjoy their company, with their good humour and friendliness. It was our first touring team visit of the year and it was an enjoyable afternoon in the spring sunshine, Budleigh prevailing at the end on this occasion. We are already looking forward to welcoming them again next year. |
