On 20th December, Budleigh Bowls Club hosted the annual Christmas Bowls and Buffet event for the Exmouth and District u3a. 32 u3a members playing in teams of 4, enjoyed a Round Robin Competition over 8 Ends for each team.

The winning team by a narrow margin of just 2 Shots were Lyn Holmes, Sue Kendrick, Richard Workman, and Rickey Alvarez. In 2nd place was the team of Les Gay, Margaret Alvarez, Anne Workman, and Bob Nicholls.

Following the competition, the bowlers enjoyed a festive meal.

Tony Mackness, Club Captain, commented “we have been hosting the u3a Bowls Group on  a weekly basis for the past 18 months and it is encouraging to see so many local novice bowlers enjoying the sport. Until 18 months ago the majority of the u3a bowlers had not picked-up a Wood and several have now joined the Club and are playing Inter-Club games”.

Tony added. “I would like to thank several Club members who helped to ensure the success of the Day. Mike Clark, Tony Lim and Jackey Phillips organised the playing order and scoring, and Mo Bond and Joan Shaw who arranged such a great meal. We are looking forward to working with u3a in 2023 and encouraging more people to take-up the sport.”
